Hi! I'm Annika Thomas.
A few years after my graduation from Beckmans School of Design in Stockholm, I had advanced to chief of design for a large international clothing company. However satisfying that was, I soon began
to seriously question fashion and the clothing industry. My bold decision to leave, to embark on a quest of finding a more meaningful way to work with clothes, marked the beginning of a journey that turned out to be as challenging as exciting.
As I delved into the mystery of human and cultural evolution, explored my own identity indepth and studied the effects of colors, shapes and surface patterns on the human psyche, a deeper understanding of clothes emerged.
I re-evaluated what it means to be a designer.
New ways of working unfolded gradually along with my steady focus of finding ways to weave together the inner and outer. Eventually I began to teach others how to use colors, patterns and garment styles as tools on their path to inner growth.
So why did I call my company Metamorfos? This word always intrigued me. Part of the reason might be because, as a designer, I am involved with the transformation of outer form. But there is also this deep wonder and curiosity about the evolving processes behind human consciousness, along with an inner knowing that the hidden world of the psyche is intricately connected to how things are designed and crafted on a concrete level.
Even though sharing my knowledge and insights is important to me, I still feel most at ease in my studio — sewing, weaving, knitting and creating patterns — while pondering life's big questions.
